Batman was already considered a hero, which means he was willing to risk his life in order to keep others safe. According to the dictionary, a hero is a person who is admired for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. A hero inspires us, gives us that example we would want to follow, and become. With that said, we can say Batman was willing to make the sacrifice just to keep the city safe from any harm. He preferred to lose one life, his life, instead of letting hundreds of lives be lost. He not only did it because that would be his job as a superhero, but he also did it out of love and care for the city and its’ people.
A Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens in the year 1859. It came to be Dickens’ 12th novel. A Tale of Two Cities had two main sources which inspired Dickens to write this novel. The author had read “The French Revolution” by Thomas Carlyle, which became one of his inspirations, and so did the French Revolution itself. Dickens’ also found inspiration from a play he acted in called ‘The Frozen Deep’ in 1857. The author was going through some changes during this time, especially with his love life. This may have been a small inspiration for ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ as well.
Dickens took The French Revolution as an inspiration to write his novel. This historical event became the setting of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’. The French Revolution began in 1789, when the aristocracy and clergy lived a high class life while the rest of the people had to pay taxes. During this time, the people didn’t have many rights. After a long fight for their rights, France became a republic in 1792. But it did not end there. After the French Revolution came ‘The Reign of Terror’. Many people were sentenced to death due to unfair trials, and many others were imprisoned. As you can see at the beginning of the novel, it reveals the French Revolution, It shows how harsh and difficult this time was for many. ‘The Frozen Deep’ was not just a play that inspired Dickens to write ‘ A Tale of Two Cities’ , it was also a play which Dickens participated in as the character Richard Wardour. ‘The Frozen Deep’ involves a love triangle, where Wardour (played by Dickens) sacrifices his life so that the man who loved the same woman as him may have her. This love triangle inspired the complex relation in Dickens’ novel between Charles Darnay, Lucie Manette, and Sydney Carton. He mixed his this inspiring story with his other inspiration, the French Revolution. This made it a historical fiction novel, which he had done before once in 1841 with his novel ‘Barnaby Rudge’. During the time Dickens played in ‘The Frozen Deep’, he was in an unhappy marriage. The production had hired a few professional actress for the play. There, he met the actress Ellen Ternan and fell in love. Ternan soon became his mistress. After ending his twenty three year old marriage, Dickens married Ternan, who stayed with him till his death. These were personal life changes that may have been an inspiration to Dickens’ novel in a way. In conclusion, Dickens’ bright mind brought a novel to life by taking ideas from other events and making them his in a creative, genius way. The fact that the author mixed history with fiction, and reality made this novel quite more interesting for the reader. This novel reveals the development of Dickens as a novelist. ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ shows how Dickens grows as a novelist and becomes a more mature artist. One event I would've liked to be part of is the Life of Jesus of Nazareth. Even an atheist or non-Christian can say that the life of Jesus impacted history. Till this day, Christianity is one of the largest religions of the world. Even in history class they speak with “before Christ”, and “after Christ”, not before and after anyone else. This means that our Lord and savior impacted history in the biggest way possible.
Another event I would’ve loved to be part of was the age of the Renaissance, where curiosity was encouraged. People started to realize there was much more to learn in this world. People began to acknowledge art and mathematics. It was a time of less fear, and more curiosity. Apollo 11 would have been another historical event i would’ve loved to be part of. This event brought pride to humanity, and opened new opportunities to us human beings. Despite the uncountable tragedies while trying to step foot on our moon, Americans can take pride in saying they were the first to do it. |
